When was Saferworld founded?

Saferworld was founded in 1989 as a politically independent research and programming organisation. We now work in over 20 countries across Africa, the Middle East, Asia and Europe, with advocacy platforms based in key policy centres including London, Brussels and Washington.

Does Saferworld offer internships or volunteering opportunities?

Saferworld occasionally offers internships, as well as other opportunities to work with us. We advertise all these opportunities on our jobs page. We do not currently offer any volunteering opportunities.

How can I make a donation to Saferworld?

What do you do with the money that I give to Saferworld?

Your money will go towards supporting all Saferworld’s work to prevent violent conflict and build safer lives. You can see a breakdown of how our income was spent last year in our Annual Review.

How much of my donation goes on fundraising and administration?

Less than 3% of Saferworld’s expenditure goes on generating funds and governance costs. Our overall support costs – which include support staff and office costs, as well as the cost of generating funds and governance costs – were 8.4% of expenditure in 2014-15.

What is Gift Aid and how can I register?

If you are in the UK, Gift Aid makes your donation go further. Under this UK government scheme, Saferworld can claim back tax on every donation – even a one-off gift – made by a taxpaying supporter. If you are donating online you just need to include your address and confirm you are a UK taxpayer.

I need to amend or cancel my Direct Debit as my circumstances have changed. How do I do this?

If you need to amend or cancel your direct debit, just contact our funding team by email (funding@saferworld.org.uk) or phone (020 7324 4646).

I need to cancel my Gift Aid Declaration as I am no longer a UK taxpayer. How do I do this?

How is Saferworld governed?

Saferworld’s Board of Trustees is responsible for regulating the organisation’s strategic direction and ensuring its values are embedded in its operations. Trustees meet four times a year with the Executive Director. Read short biographies about our trustees.

The Executive Team, led by the Executive Director, is responsible for operationalising Saferworld’s strategic plan, assisted by senior managers across the organisation. Coordination and decision-making is done through a range of management and cross-organisational fora.
