Communities First: an online exhibition exploring community security

© Marcus Perkins

The problems facing Bangladesh, South Sudan and Yemen vary greatly, but those who live there have a common aspiration – to be free from fear and insecurity. Our online exhibition, Communities First, tells the story of individuals and communities in those three countries, highlighting their uniqueness, their shared challenges, and the drive for positive change.

Featuring the work of award-winning photographer Marcus Perkins, with images from Tom Martin and Alex Potter, the exhibition aims to give a visual voice to people whose daily experiences of conflict and insecurity are too often marginalised and forgotten.

Resolving conflict in Pakistan

In partnership with Community Appraisal and Motivation Programme (CAMP), we have been working to promote peace, security and justice in Pakistan since 2002. In January 2012 Saferworld and CAMP began work on a three-year programme to promote and develop participatory peacebuilding initiatives in seven districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province. In three new case studies, we show how this work supporting civil society organisations is helping to resolve local-level conflict.
