Challenging UK arms sales

A damning new report by the UK Parliament Committees on Arms Export Controls has exposed the UK Government's issuing of licences for the sale of arms to repressive regimes.

In a blog first featured in the Huffington Post, Saferworld's Head of Arms Transfer Controls, Roy Isbister, states that the recent revoking of five arms export licences to Egypt by the UK Government shows lessons from supplying unstable regimes with arms have still not been learned.

The potential of policing in South Sudan

Now independent for over two years, South Sudan is still facing a range of national problems and a continued tense relationship with Sudan. Yet Saferworld research in Warrap and Western Bahr el Ghazal States highlights the importance of local security concerns to communities, and the progress being made putting communities at the heart of policing.
