International advocacy

Twisted gun statue at the United Nations, New York

We can only reach a limited number of people through our projects on the ground.

But we can improve security for many more if we influence major international actors so that their policies and actions support conflict prevention, security and justice sector development and tackle the proliferation of arms.

Saferworld understands advocacy to be the creation and support of processes to influence the policies and practices that affect people's lives.

What we do

  • We bring communities together to articulate their needs and concerns to decision makers at a local and national level
  • We use our experience of working on the ground to draw evidence-based arguments about the way the international community can best prevent violent conflict
  • We use these arguments to influence decision-makers at a number of different levels – the UK, the EU and the UN
