What are the challenges in Russia?

Russia is one of the major arms exporters in the world, but its current policy and practice on arms transfer control fall far short of international best practice.

Human rights and international humanitarian law is rarely considered, except when are subject to an international embargo.

It is also important that the following related issues are addressed :

  • poor transparency
  • a lack of public accountability
  • lack of parliamentary oversight

What we do in Russia

Our work in Russia includes:

  • working with local partners to raise awareness of small arms problems and arms control in Russia
  • training local civil society groups to work on these issues
