Asia and Saferworld

Saferworld works in South Asia, a region which is host to a number of countries with a long history of violent conflict and insecurity.

We work on arms, security and development issues in Bangladesh, Nepal and Sri Lanka, as well as at the regional level.

Our Asia team is located in Colombo, Dhaka, Kathmandu and London.

What are the challenges in Asia?

Security and development across the region is compromised because of:

  • the widespread use and availability of small arms
  • armed violence
  • security provision
  • weak governance

What we do in Asia

We focus on improving the safety and security of communities in Asia by:

  • researching community safety and security issues
  • working with local communities and authorities to improve community safety
  • supporting governments and civil society to build effective controls on small arms and light weapons
  • highlighting the links between armed violence, security and poverty
