East Africa is a culturally and ethnically diverse region – rich in natural resources, wildlife and ecology. Yet every country is affected by conflict. The prevalence of guns and weapons, land grabbing, drought, civil war, ethnic, religious and political tensions has led to numerous violent and complicated conflicts.
Saferworld has worked in the region since 2000 and has offices in Kampala, Nairobi, Juba and Hargeisa. Our work focuses on improving governance, ensuring safety and security services are responsive to people’s needs, and reducing violence related to elections, land, access to weapons, power and resources.
