Karen Women’s Empowerment Group (KWEG) was formed on International Women’s Day in 2003. KWEG puts women at the forefront, aiming to strengthen the capacity of community-based organisations to influence change in Myanmar. KWEG works mostly at the community level, but has also established good working relationships and partnerships with local authorities (the Education Department, the Ministry of Home Affairs, and the Department of Social Welfare), and helps them to lobby for community organisations to play a stronger role in influencing policy and legal reform.
