Saferworld evidence published in Committee Report

29 November 2007 The report referenced Saferworld's submission to the inquiry extensively, sharing our concerns about the quality and enforcement of Russia's arms transfer controls and noting a number of Saferworld's recommendations.

These included the need for the UK Government to focus bilateral efforts on promoting transparency in the arms trade and encouraging Russia to support for the Arms Trade Treaty.

The Committee also called for the Government to provide updates on progress regarding Russian support for the Arms Trade Treaty following the 2007 UN General Assembly session.

Informed by our work on small arms and arms export controls in the country, and drawing on a recent Saferworld report on small arms export controls in Russia, our submission identified key priorities for the UK Government and the international community relating to security and Russian small arms and light weapons production and export.
