Implementing the new commitments to peace

21 September 2017

Saferworld, together with 131 other peacebuilding organisations, have come together to deliver a joint message on the International Day of Peace, 21 September 2017.

Noting the fluid and challenging international security environment, the failure of current international efforts to address poverty and violent conflict, and the unprecedented numbers of people forcibly displaced from their homes by conflict, we call on the international community to:

  • Embrace the commitments to peace in the 2030 Agenda
  • Balance national efforts with a focus on regional and international peace, justice and inclusion issues
  • Mainstream prevention into its approach to international peace and security
  • Protect and support civil society’s vital role in fostering just and sustainable peace.

Almost thirty years since our founding, and in a year where we launched our exciting new strategic direction for the organisation, Saferworld remains committed to achieving safer, more inclusive and peaceful societies across the globe.
