Enhancing people’s resilience to resolve conflicts in Western Bahr el Ghazal state

In this brief we provide a context update about the current situation in the town of Wau – the state capital of Western Bahr el Ghazal and the second largest city in South Sudan.

We present safety and security challenges identified by communities, authorities and civil society such as land disputes, proliferation of small arms and light weapons in the hands of civilians and ethnic tensions among others.

We also provide recommendations for how best to address these challenges for all levels of government and communities to consider.
