Preventing and mitigating the risk of arms diversion in Africa
The illegal flow of arms and ammunition fuels conflict and human rights violations in countries across Africa. Arms diversion is often the crucial link between the ‘legal’ arms trade and the illicit trade. This briefing examines the factors, processes and circumstances that drive arms diversion in the continent. It then looks at the ways the countries involved in the arms trade can respond and tackle the problem, collectively and individually.
