Jonglei State: an initial assessment of insecurity and peacebuilding responses

People's Perspectives on Peacemaking in South Sudan

Saferworld is looking at local-level conflicts from a community perspective in South Sudan to help generate understanding of the different types of conflict and to inform policies for addressing them. To ensure the participatory nature of this analysis Saferworld has engaged with a number of civil society partners engaging on peace and conflict issues in several states across South Sudan. This briefing shares the findings of our initial assessment of insecurity and peacebuilding responses in Jonglei State. It also sets out the implications of the security situation for peace and development programming in the state.

This work is funded by the European Commission, the People’s Peacemaking Perspectives (PPP) project, an 18-month joint initiative between Conciliation Resources and Saferworld, which will provide opportunities for civil society involvement in the European Union’s planning processes for conflict prevention and peacebuilding initiatives.
