Leading the way on gender, peace and security

Saferworld submission to GAPS UK on strengthening the UK National Action Plan on Women, Peace and Security, November 2011

The UK Government is widely considered to be one of the leading champions of the women, peace and security agenda on the international stage. It will shortly begin conducting an annual review of the UK National Action Plan on Women, Peace and Security (NAP). The updated NAP published in November 2010 represents a significant improvement on the previous plan, and the annual review process represents an important opportunity to further strengthen the UK’s strategy for action on gender, peace and security.

Saferworld is a member of Gender Action for Peace and Security UK (GAPS), a network of UK civil society organisations and activists which promotes, facilitates and monitors the meaningful inclusion of gender perspectives in all aspects of UK policy and practice on peace and security. As a member of GAPS, Saferworld produced this briefing to inform a submission from GAPS to the UK Government as part of the annual review of the NAP.
