China ATT update

Issue 2

This is the second biannual e-newsletter is co-published in Chinese and English by Saferworld and Tongji University. The ATT Update provides a forum – particularly for young Chinese academics – to report and analyse the progress of the UN Arms Trade Treaty (ATT) initiative, which will be negotiated at the UN in July 2012. It also explores the broader issues surrounding the proliferation of conventional weapons.

In this edition Dr Dai Ying looks at the key issues around human security for the ATT. Meanwhile Zhao Pei provides an overview of the illicit proliferation and control of Small Arms and Light Weapons in West Africa. And finally, with calls for a ‘gender-aware’ ATT gaining momentum, Dell Marie Butler gives an insight into the gender dimensions of a possible treaty.
