As a five-year project to improve the relationships between communities and authorities in Somalia draws to a close, we explore the main changes we have seen.
5 December 2021The conflict that erupted in Juba, South Sudan in July 2016 had devastating effects on people’s lives - especially their sense of peace and security. Four years since the conflict, there was still no functioning police station in Juba’s Gudele Block 9, adding to the insecurity. Reopening a police station has helped communities in the area restore peace and security among many residents.
14 December 2020Uzbekistan’s long and fraught history of corruption and abuse of power since independence has led to widespread public mistrust of the police. Saferworld has worked with civil society partner Istiqlol Avlodi to pilot a community policing and community security approach as part of the country’s ongoing efforts to reform the police.
