Transitional justice in Uganda: ensuring people's voices are heard

Transitional justice – the name given to processes seeking to recognise victims, reinforce the rule of law and strengthen trust in the state – has been touted as a priority in Uganda for several years. But progress on the government’s flagship 2022 Transitional Justice Bill has stalled, and the mechanisms that do exist for delivering justice face many problems.

Saferworld and partners listened to people from across Uganda, who told us of their frustrations with the country’s approach to transitional justice and suggested ways the processes could be improved. This briefing presents their views.
