Briefing for the UK parliament's Foreign Affairs Select Committee
This submission draws on recent Saferworld reports on Russia's small arms proliferation, transparency and arms export controls.The submission highlights our concerns about the quality and enforcement of Russia's arms transfer controls and identifies key priorities for the UK Government and the international community relating to security and Russian small arms and light weapons production and export.
Recommendations include the need for the UK Government to focus bilateral efforts on promoting transparency in the arms trade and encouraging Russia to support an Arms Trade Treaty.
