Bilateral support for women, peace and security in Nepal

Narrative report of the Nepal focus group on the UK National Action Plan on Women, Peace and Security

The UK National Action Plan on UN Security Council Resolution 1325 Women, Peace and Security (NAP) contains three pilot country plans for bilateral action, which set out actions being taken on the ground in priority conflict or post-conflict countries, namely Afghanistan, Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and Nepal.

As part of a review of the NAP the UK Government requested that Gender Action for Peace and Security UK (GAPS), a network of UK-based civil society organisations and activists working on women, peace and security, organise a consultation process to inform the review.

As part of this process Saferworld conducted a focus group on 22 August in Kathmandu, bringing together representatives from the UK and Nepali governments and Nepali civil society to provide an opportunity for people who are engaged in activities on women, peace and security in Nepal to provide input on how the UK can best plan its support for this work.

This report shares discussion and recommendations from the focus group under three headings: designing bilateral support for women, peace and security in Nepal; engaging with stakeholders in Nepal; and priorities for UK support.
