Community Security in Bangladesh

Bangladesh has made steady progress under a number of the Millennium Development Goals, but its foundations for long-term stability still remain uncertain.

In partnership with BRAC, Saferworld has been running a community security programme in 16 sites within Satkhira, Bagerhat, Gopalganj, Faridpur and Jessore districts of south-western Bangladesh. The programme aims to improve public security, build state legitimacy and contribute to an environment in which peace dividends can be better realised. This video introduces the programme and explains how communities are working together to address their safety and security concerns.

“Community security is a powerful approach, working both with communities to identify their safety needs, and with those who are best placed to respond to them, including local authorities and development actors.”
